Iberostar Waves Cancun

A dependable classic

Iberostar Waves Cancun sits directly on the hotel zone beach, about 25 minutes from the airport. It’s older than newer mega-resorts but that’s part of the appeal — it’s walkable, the grounds are mature with real shade, and the beach out front is one of the widest in the zone.

Food

Five à la carte restaurants. La Hacienda (Mexican) is the standout — try to book early in your stay. The buffet is solid but not exciting. Lobby bar makes a proper margarita.

Rooms

Standard rooms are smaller than newer resorts (~35 m²). Ocean View is worth the upgrade — the Garden View category faces the golf course and can feel dark. All rooms have a balcony.

Great for

• Couples and small families who want quick access to Cancun restaurants and shopping outside the resort
• Repeat visitors — the staff remembers you
• Golfers (the on-site 18-hole course is right across the road)

What to know

• Beach is technically public (like all Cancun hotel zone beaches) but the hotel’s section is clearly marked and rarely has outside visitors
• Wi-Fi is free but patchy on the beach
• Renovations complete 2023 — rooms look fresh
