Choose Your Escape

Four Caribbean options we actually know inside out. Each one has direct or easy one-stop flights from Chicago — O’Hare (ORD) or Midway (MDW) — and works for real Midwest families on real budgets.

Ministry of Lazy specializes in Caribbean vacation packages from Chicago. Instead of spreading ourselves thin over 40 random destinations the way big booking sites do, we focus on the four places that make the most sense from O’Hare and Midway for a one-week all-inclusive trip: Cancun (Mexico), Punta Cana (Dominican Republic), Montego Bay and the rest of Jamaica, and Aruba. Each one has year-round or seasonal non-stop service from Chicago, each one allows visa-free tourist entry for most US travelers, and each one has the resort density and family infrastructure that actually works when you bring kids from the Midwest for a February or March break.

Our Chicago to Caribbean bookings are not a sideline — they are literally all we do. That means when you ask us whether Iberostar Waves Cancun is a better fit for your family than Moon Palace, or whether the extra 45 minutes of transfer time to Uvero Alto is worth it for the quieter beach, you get a real opinion based on dozens of clients who have been to both. We are licensed in Illinois (O&V Services LLC, IL LLC #16061905), we work with every tour operator that flies the Chicago Caribbean route, and we quote the same price you’d see on Apple Vacations, Funjet, Pleasant Holidays or Southwest Vacations directly — often lower after we apply closed promos.

Below is the short version: four destinations, one tile each. Tap any tile for the deep guide — best time to visit, what the beach is actually like, kid-friendliness, safety, tap water, tipping, currency, sargassum outlook, and the specific resorts we book most often. When you’re ready for a quote, call 224-550-3760 or request a callback and we’ll get two or three options out to you the same day.

How to pick

Which Caribbean destination is right for your Chicago family?

If it’s your first Caribbean trip from Chicago — go Cancun. It has the shortest flight, the most direct service out of both ORD and MDW, the biggest selection of all-inclusive resorts, and the lowest friction on paperwork. If you’re traveling with small kids or elderly parents, Cancun is almost always the right answer.

If you want the best value on a 4–5★ resort — go Punta Cana. You’re paying for a slightly longer flight (about 45 extra minutes) but in return you get wider beaches, less crowding, and often 20–30% better pricing at the top-tier all-inclusive brands like Iberostar Grand, Hard Rock and Royalton.

If you want more character and local culture — go Jamaica. Reggae, jerk chicken, cliff-jumping in Negril, waterfalls in Ocho Rios. Non-stop to Montego Bay on both United (ORD) and Southwest (MDW). Just pick your resort zone based on tolerable drive time, because Negril and Ocho Rios are both about 90 minutes from the airport.

If you want guaranteed perfect weather — go Aruba. Aruba sits outside the Caribbean hurricane belt, which means reliably sunny, dry, windy weather year-round. It’s the most expensive of the four but the trade-off is that nothing will cancel your trip. Aruba is also one of the few Caribbean airports with US Customs pre-clearance, so your return to Chicago skips the immigration line.
